Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive overview of the process of forming social competence of orphans. The essence of the concept of "social competence of orphans" is clarified. Criterial assessments of the formation of social competence of orphans are identified, such as professional intentions – a conscious attitude of orphans to a certain professional activity, the desire to get an education in the chosen profession. Professional intention includes the decision-making of orphans; everyday culture - the attitude of orphans in everyday life, hygiene, consumer culture, aesthetics of appearance, clothing, housing and interior items, the desire to do household chores, the ability of orphans to critically evaluate and control their own household activities. The concept of communicative culture is the unity of personal and social values that encourage orphans to interact and communicate in society. The culture of a healthy lifestyle is a set of consciously formed habits of orphans aimed at maintaining and strengthening health. The development of diagnostic methods has enabled the identification of orphans' social competence, encompassing target, content, and result components. The Model for the Formation of Orphans' Social Competence has been integrated into the pedagogical practices of orphanages, and a programme, entitled "Formation of Orphans' Social Competence", has been devised on the basis of the aforementioned Model. The effectiveness of the aforementioned Model of Formation of Social Competence of Orphans was proven through the research conducted on the peculiarities of socialisation of orphans in an orphanage. The results of the study are recommended for practical use in orphanages in the process of socialization of orphans.
